Welcome to The City, a unique online learning program that helps young Canadians improve their knowledge of the modern financial world. The city is a turn-key resource which allows students to gain knowledge and financial skills.

Launched in September 2008 by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), the resource blends fictional characters with real-life financial activities and decisions, organized in hands-on, activity-based format. Eleven modules introduce key financial topics, starting with the basic lesson of distinguishing needs from wants to budgeting and savings, credit and debt, and financial planning. Along the way, students learn from eight life stage characters who face various financial circumstances.

Tailored to curricula from all Canadian provinces and territories, The City is free and ready for in-class use, either in electronic or paper format. The program can be adapted to any classroom and includes downloadable lesson plans, overheads, and student handouts.

Teachers who register on The City before November 30th, 2010, will be entered in a draw to win a SMART Board for their school.
